Fans who purchase a jersey will have the ability to customize it with their name on the back or the name of their personal healthcare hero. All proceeds ($50) from every jersey sold will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“This has been an incredibly challenging time for our community and fans, and as an organization we wanted to find a way to publicly recognize and celebrate the healthcare heroes that have bravely been on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic and every day,” said Rich Lisk, Executive Vice President, GF Sports & Entertainment. “Along with Riptide partner Orlin & Cohen, we are proud to provide a portion of proceeds for every jersey sold to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to support the amazing work they do year around to help children and their families to treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.”
The Riptide will wear the jerseys on a special “Superhero Night” during the upcoming 2020-21 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season. Orlin & Cohen, the Official Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Partner of the Riptide and jersey patch partner, will have their logo featured on the jersey.
Riptide captain Dan MacRae said: “It will be an honor to wear these special jerseys during the upcoming season to show our support for all the extraordinary healthcare workers that take care of our communities every day.”
Over the past six months, the Riptide have led several local community initiatives to support frontline workers. In May, the team partnered with Jersey Mike’s on Long Island to provide lunch to nearly 60 area senior rehabilitation, nursing and care centers that were impacted by the pandemic. The Riptide and Jersey Mike’s dropped-off lunch at 16 locations per week for four consecutive weeks during the month. During June the team hosted a Riptide Virtual 5K with donations going to local nonprofits fighting COVID-19. In addition, Riptide partner Maspeth Federal Savings donated $5,000 to Catholic Health Services of Long Island for PPE and other equipment for hospital staff to combat COVID-19 as part of the organizations commitment to donate $5 for every save a Riptide goalie made during the 2019-2020 NLL season.
The Riptide will select first in the 2020 NLL Draft on Thursday, September 17. Live coverage of the virtual draft begins at 7:00pm ET on B/R Live as well as the NLL Facebook and YouTube pages.
